I am retired. I live with my husband of 47 years. My only son and his family live about 10 minutes away. He has two children--Frances is 9 and Charlie is 4.
I worked in education for 40 years. I taught in the classroom for 14 years and then worked as an educational consultant for the state of North Carolina for the rest of my career. I taught teachers and administrators. I also worked with the Legislature for several years with a section of NC Dept. of Instruction that served as a liaison to the Legislature.
I like to read, to cook, to sew Halloween costumes and stuffed toys for the grandkids, and to spend time with family. My husband, a former coach, is a sports nut; so we watch quite a lot of sports on TV.
One of my favorite things is to sit on my back screened porch with a book and a glass of tea. Another favorite thing is hugs and kisses from my family.

I missed the reunion of "56" held recently, but I have seen the wonderful book with pictures of so many of you. I have pretty much remained in Memphis. I attended Memphis State, married, had two wonderful kids and have two wonderful grand kids.
I still see Gail Valvick, Sylvia Watts, and Judy Plunk.
I would like very much to hear from any of you who would like to get in touch.

I've lived in Memphis all this time and don't plan to leave.
I've worked for 40+ years as an assistant to a commodity trader (soybeans,
corn, wheat, pork bellies, etc.) I don't see retirement any time soon
either.
I married Jerry "Moose" Bruce (Central class of '56) in 1963. We have one
wonderful son "Chip" age 25. He is currently employed at Fedex and
attending school in Computer Programming.
I love to garden and decorate - always changing things around at home.
Moose just loves it! Ha! I would love to hear from some of my classmates
and hope some more register soon. I do see a few of the girls occasionally
for lunch! (Patsy Hodges, Dale Turner, Joann Luton, Marty McDonald, Florence Ann Wilkins, Dianne Dickens, Donna Jester, Donna Talley, Marcia Scarborough,
Patsy Martak, Margaret Lott, Corinne Rhidolphi) I'll work on them to get
in touch with you.

Since graduating in 1956, I received my BS degree from East Texas State where I met and married my wife Charlotte. We have three children and five grand-children. We celebrate 46 years this September. In 1961 we moved to Memphis where I taught and coached at Memphis Frayser. During that time I received my MA from Memphis State. We then moved to Jackson where I was on the faculty at Union. Then it was on to Furman to coach for the next four years. Then on to the Univ. of South Carolina to be the head track coach. Furman then invited me back to be the Director of Athletics. Did that for eight years and then began speaking full-time.
Charlotte and I traveled America doing motivational-inspirational speaking to schools, churches and in the market-place. After about eight years of that, I was invited to Dallas to work with Dr. Kenneth Cooper at the Aerobics Center. The church we were attending, Prestonwood Baptist (23,000 members) asked me to join their staff which
I did for 15 years. During that time, Dallas Baptist University, honored me with an honorary Doctorate in Theology.
That's a lot for a boy who wasn't sure he would graduate from East until the week before graduation.......
I retired from the church staff three years ago after doctors found two aneurysms in my brain thanks to my dentist
sending me for MRI to see what might be causing my jaw pain. I still do some ministry but not the hrs. plus a week that I was doing. I hope all of you who might see this will signup on our alumni page. Remember to, "Keep on Keeping on and Celebrate life"
John West.
